Greek Imperial/Roman Provincial. Macedon (as Roman Protectorate). AR Tetradrachm (17.07g, 31mm). Amphipolis (First Meris), circa 167 – 149 BC.
Obverse: Macedonian shield with draped bust of Artemis Tauropolos right in center, draped and wearing stephane and earring, bow and quiver over shoulder.
Reverse: ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΩΝ ΠΡΩΤΗΣ. Legend above & below club of Hercules, ΣΗΑTΡ monogram above, TKP and MYEΩT monograms below; all within wreath of oak leaves. Thunderbolt to left.

Notes: Toned. Typical for issue edge imperfections. Large Post-Hellenistic style flan. A lovely type, designed in such a way that the broad circular flans look like palm-sized Macedonian shields decorated with a bust of Artemis.
